Internationalization is defined as the process by which a company
integrates into globalization, expanding its operations, totally or partially,
into an international context and facilitating commercial, financial and
knowledge exchanges between different nations. This analysis focuses on
internationalization within the field of small and medium-sized enterprises
(SMEs) as an essential determinant of business competitiveness. The
methodology used consists of a non-experimental design of a documentary
nature. Crucial aspects of internationalization were examined, covering
agreements, models and scopes. Through the theoretical reviews carried
out during the study, several key patterns, relationships and concepts can
be identified that are fundamental for SMEs in any context or country. One
of these indicates that internationalization refers to the process by which a
company participates in the reality of globalization, that is, the way in which
the company projects its activities, totally or partially, to an international
environment and generates flows of various types (commercial, financial and
knowledge) between different countries.
This theoretical review concludes that the internationalization of SMEs brings
substantial benefits for the national economic outlook, positively promoting
job creation, international projection, skills development and the adoption of
cutting-edge technologies in the business field.
